I thought as I had a few minutes to spare this morning I’d update my blog.
I thought I’d tell you all how August been thus far.
Well, to be honest, it’s been quite productive.
My first piece of news is that my short story Jam has been accepted for an anthology due to be published at the end of 2020. I’ll have more news on that at a later date.
Earlier in the year I entered a BBC Writer’s Room competition with Flowers, a TV script about lockdown. Sadly my entry didn’t get through. However a chance email about it and a Tweet, led me to a rewrite and I submitted it as a radio drama and this week I received news that it’s through to the final selection – so digits are crossed.
I’ve been commissioned to write two magazine articles for the US bridal market, it may seem like a backwards step, but it keeps my hand in with a couple of editors that I’ve worked for in the past.
I’ve continued to be productive, and I’m forging on with my second novel, Gay to Z and the chapter and word count is building.
My other work in progress, 25 voices is coming along, albeit at a slower pace. I’m currently working on a piece called, Sylvia (Best Seller). A story about a woman who, after an altercation in a charity shop decides to write a best selling novel. I’ve also rewritten one of my pieces called Denis (The Javelin Thrower) and this has been submitted for consideration for the September 2020, 6X6 reading event.
Finally, another step back in time I’m afraid. I’ve been approached by an ex-pat magazine to become their southern Italy writer. It started after I entered a competition that their editor was one of the judges for. They researched my back catalogue (they said) for Italy Magazine and offered me a chance to write for them.
The jury is out on my decision at the moment. Being based back in the UK being a principle reason. Also I’m not sure it’ll help me to progress, if I’m, in essence going back over old ground.
I’m seriously considering self publishing my novella, Willow and the Motorway Horses but at present I need to do more research into this and marketing etc.
I hope August is a good month for you all.
